FOTD -face of the day: It's Judy Time Palette Looks!

Have you ever heard a YouTube channel called “itsjudyslife”? If you have never heard of it, please go and watch:

http://www.youtube.com/user/itsJudysLife
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this channel. I am obsessed with Judy, Benji and Julianna (and their upcoming twins, of course!). They are such a cute family and I love watching their vlogs while I enjoy my morning smoothie everyday. I was so happy when I found this channel and started watching their vlog religiously. Then I discovered something amazing while watching their vlogs. Benji is half-Japanese! I began to feel a strong connection to them because I am Japanese (I was born in Tokyo and came to Canada when I was in my early 20’s) as well. I love hearing him trying to speak Japanese –he sounds like gaijin (non-Japanese) but the words he uses are quite polite ones. It shows his good upbringing in my opinion :)

Anyway, I HAD to support them when Judy announced that she was releasing her makeup palette from BH Cosmetics. First, I was surprised with the price. $14.95?! Oh my goodness. That’s a steal. Although I’ve never ordered anything from BH Cosmetics before, I trusted Judy who has known to be a big beauty guru in YouTube. I thought she wouldn’t approve anything that’s not good quality. She sounds genuine and honest with products she has been reviewing so I went ahead and placed an order without any hesitation.

Here is the It’s Judy Time Palette!
I have been using it for a while and so far I am loving it. I think most of the colours are wearable. You might feel a bit discouraged with those three “blue-ish” colours on the bottom right, but don’t be –they are beautiful colours if you learned to apply them in certain ways. I do wear blues time to time but mostly navy blue so for first few times I didn’t use these bright blue colours. But as I have been watching Judy wearing beautiful blue eye shadows on her eyes, I was totally inspired to try them.

So here is my attempt today:

I love how the colours in this palette blend very well and goes well each other. This look made me feel feminine too! The colours lasted whole day. No crease, budge, fading or anything. I am truly impressed.

On to the next look –I call this a “chocolate look”. On that day, I wanted to wear something chocolate-y on my eyes because I was gonna request my hair stylist to give me a “delicious dark chocolate” hair colour. Oh by the way… please excuse my bangs -I was too lazy to style it so I just braided on that day.

I will keep updating more looks as I experiment! I want everyone to try this palette -good quality, highly pigmented shadows in super affordable price! It cannot get better than this :)

FOTD -face of the day: PARIS inspired makeup!

Happy New Year everyone!
I apologize for being MIA for a while. December was extremely busy with work -I thought I was going to go crazy. But it was okay because... I went to Paris with my mom!! This was our first trip together and also our first trip to Europe. We went everywhere for sightseeing, ate lots of delicious meals and shopped like crazy . Oh yes, we struggled with the French menu at the restaurants too.

As we expected, everything in Paris was romantic and beautiful. We were lucky to be there during the Christmas season :) I took many pictures but here is one of my favourites of all -a picture of Galeries Lafayette.

P1010897Isn't it stunning?
I wish Eaton Centre was like this too.

My mom and I noticed a lot of things about the women in Paris. For example, I noticed that many of them wear perfume. I mean, A LOT of perfume. I could even smell it when I landed in Paris at the airport. I thought "oh wow, this country smells good". But soon I found out that they wear a lot of perfume (I am not going to lie -there were couple of times when I had trouble breathing in the elevators). I heard it’s their culture since long time ago.

In terms of fashion, I noticed that they seem to wear grayish/black clothing with an accent colour item (ex. red scarf, colourful purse, etc.).

Of course I was checking out the makeup trend in Paris as well! I am surprised to see so many of them were wearing a bold, red lipsticks. If it’s not red, then they would wear mauve red lipsticks. I hardly saw anyone wearing nude lipsticks. So I HAD to grab a new lipstick at duty free on my way home in Toronto (the sales lady forced me to buy a perfume but I decided to pass). I bought YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in number 17. It's a pigmented, rosy red colour. Consistency is amazing –buttery and smooth. I love it very much. I like how the colour of red is not too intense. I would describe this colour as an “adult red” (if you know what I mean).

Here is a Paris-inspired FOTD today:

I normally wear a light, neutral look on my eye when I wear red lipsticks but I felt like going for a solid look today. I applied taupe in my lower eyelid, blended out with the matte mauve colour and blended that mauve colour out with the light pink colour. I also applied a bit of darker brown on the outer crease to give it a depth to it. This is actually the first FOTD post using Naked 3 Palette! I like it so far –I am not so much of a pink eyeshadow fan but surprisingly I have been enjoying this palette because it also comes with the mauvy-taupe colours. The colour selection is definitely different from Naked 1 and 2. I won’t mention too much about the palette yet as I am still experimenting. I will definitely post more FOTD pictures using Naked 3 though!

FOTD & Haul -face of the day: fall makeup

I love fall.

I think it's the most beautiful season of the year -trees changing colours, cool and crisp air at night, thanksgiving dinner, pumpkin spice latte at starbucks and this is the time of the year when I begin to think "hey, I should make some hot chocolate soon".

I love fall makeup.

Warm eyeshadows, darker-mauvier blush, golden highlight, berry lips and dark nail polish. I enjoy wearing something warm and bold in this season. I think fall makeup is totally romantic. I think fall is the time to try something out of the box and go step further than you normally wear. Experimenting new colours might give you a sensation of "oh wow, I actually look good in this colour!".

As I said in my previous post, I don't normally wear very bold lipsticks unless I really feel like it or I know that I am definitely not meeting with my clients. Few days ago, I felt like wearing berry colour on my lips all of a sudden so I decided to come up with my first fall makeup of this year. Here is what I wore:

I think I craved for this look because I made a little damage last week at the local drugstore. Some of the things I saw were way too pretty to pass on.

Look at these eyeshadows. They are like jewels!!!

I just HAD to buy them. Now please let me make it clear: some of the colours might look similar in the picture but they are completely different in my eyes. The top one is brown toned palette and the bottom is green toned. As you can see, the bottom one has more glitter than the top one. They are both.so.pretty.

Then I was just thinking I am going to stop myself right there but I saw this beautiful gloss on the side of the display. Deep mauvy-berry colour in a tube that says "limited edition". I immediately thought this would go with the eyeshadow palettes I picked.

Finally I allowed myself to have one fall perfume. It's "twilight woods" from Bath and Body Works. It's $35 but I had a coupon so I only paid $25 for this. I've always loved this scent. Bath gel, body mist, body lotion, candles.. you name it, I have them all. I still cannot believe I bought this perfume for $25 because it lasts forever. It actually lasts more than some high-end perfumes I have. I love love love it. So glad that I added this to my collection.

I am feeling fall!

Appropriate makeup?

I am in my mid 30's (well rather I am reaching 40).

As much as I love to experiment different makeups, I stay away from certain colours/types of makeup because I don't want to wear something that doesn't suit my age. For example, I used to wear baby pink lip gloss and blue eye shadows back in university days -hey, that was the trend in my home country at that time. Oh wait, I just remembered that I used to wear blue mascara too. What was I thinking?

Now that I am a grown up, I love coming up with varieties of makeup combination within the scope of "tasteful". In other words, it is important that I understand what I do on that day when I pick cosmetics. Am I working? Am I meeting with my girlfriend? or am I on a date with my fiance?

Here are three different pictures of me showing you the makeup I chose to wear for different occasions:

1) Work
My work is very intense and requires me to stay professional at all times. I think I wear taupe colour the most. I don't even have to think: taupe shimmery eyeshadow for all over the lid, matte soft brown eyeshadow in crease, peachy blush and neutral lips. I feel confident the most in this makeup. I don't know why.

2) Fun night with girls
I tend to wear something bold and fun for girls night out (or daytime lunch as well). I love to spice up a little for casual day because these are the days I normally try on new products or new looks. This is definitely a statement look -with navy smokey eye and pink lips. I love love love this combination but I know this would be "too much" for my fiance's taste.

3) Date night with fiance
For my fiance, he likes soft girly look -so I normally pick neutral with a little bit of twist (ex. mauve colour lips and soft pink cheek). Although he doesn't normally compliment on my makeup, I hope he enjoys it when he sees me.

What is your appropriate makeup?

FOTD -face of the day: brown gradation look

I woke up this morning and saw it was raining outside -I immediately thought "okay, I gotta wear something cheerful". That's what I do. Colourful clothes are meant for rainy days.

I picked my outfit but for the longest time, I didn't know what to do with my makeup. Smokey? -no, I don't wanna wear smokey. Purple? -no, I just wore purple look recently. Neutral? -no, I want to wear something more than neutral.

Finally I saw my custom MAC Cosmetics palette I recently put together and thought I would wear brown gradation look today. Here is the picture of me trying to take a decent photo right before rushing out the door.

I used several different shades of brown eyeshadows to achieve this look. Lighter shade in the centre and darker shades to the outer crease. Normally I try not to blend too much in the middle so the gradation will show up properly. I applied a little darker toned peach blush but for the lips, I wore brighter peachy lip gloss to fresh up my whole face. Although I wore a similar look before, it is interesting to recreate a look with different eyeshadows.

I found this look to be quite feminine. What do you think?

FOTD -face of the day: soft smokey look

I noticed so many people checked out this blog! Thank you so much!
I hope you enjoy reading my blog :)
Let me know if there is anything in particular you want me to write or review.
I would love to hear from the readers!

One of the readers requested me to do the "soft smokey look" so here you go:

I actually wear this look quite often. I think this is a "less is more" look -the neutral, defined eye with soft peachy cheek and nude lips. I know I might sound strange but whenever I see myself in the mirror, I feel happy (trust me, I do feel unhappy when the makeup doesn't look good).

What I did to achieve this look is to apply off-white colour for 1/2 of the eyelid and slowly apply the light brown/taupe colour on the outer half of the eyelid and crease. I repeat this process until I achieve the desired gradation effect. This is the base colour of the lid.

Instead of using the liquid eyeliner along the lash lines, I used brown eyeliner pencil (the one that has creamy texture) and winged out a little. Here is a trick: I smudged it out with a bit of brown eyeshadow using a small blending brush before the eyeliner settles. I always make sure I don't leave harsh edges of the eyeliner because I want the eyelash lines to look soft and neutral (but my eyes are definitely defined).

This is how it looks from the side angle.
I think this look is appropriate for work, dinner and even for wedding. It's soft and girly!
